DEEPENING YOUR PRACTICE
June 28th – Pranayama- the art of restraining prana (life force) or breath. In this 90 minute workshop we will go over the basics of ujiyi breathing, as well as other techniques. Without the awareness of your breath your yoga practice is incomplete.
Breathing in, I know I’m breathing in.
Breathing out, I know
As the in-breath grows deep,
The out-breath grows slow.
Breathing in makes me calm.
Breathing out makes me ease.
With the in-breath, I smile.
With the out-breath, I release.
Breathing in, there is only the present moment.
Breathing out, it is a wonderful moment.
~Thich Nhat Hanh
July 26th – Meditation- self-realization through yoga. In this 90 minute workshop will give you the tools to meditate on your own, and help you find peace and relieve stress. We will discuss the basic theories and principles of yogic meditation; spend time meditating and journaling about your experience.
What’s encouraging about meditation is that even if we shut down, we can no longer shut down in ignorance. We see very clearly that we’re closing off. That in itself begins to illuminate the darkness of ignorance.
~Pema Chodron
August 23rd - the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali- the philosophical basis of yoga. In this 90 minute workshop we will review the theories behind the Yoga Sutras, and discuss how to bring yoga off the mat and into your life. We will go over topics such as the eight limbs of yoga, chakras, and why yoga is more than just a physical practice.
Undisturbed calmness of mind is attained by cultivating friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and indifference toward the wicked. ~The yoga sutras of Patanjali
